Salonika, A Family Cookbook
Esin Eden and Nicholas Stavroulakis wrote this part-memoir, part-cookbook about Eden's family, who were Ma'min, the Judeo-Muslim descendants of followers of Shabbatai Zvi in Ottoman Salonika. At the turn of the twentieth century, half the city's population was Sephardic Jewish, and the recipes reflect that world. Most of the dishes are intrinsically kosher or close to it, and the book is illustrated with family photos.
